Difference Between BPS Grades Explained (BPS-1 to BPS-22)

In Pakistan, government jobs are classified under the Basic Pay Scale (BPS) system, ranging from BPS-1 to BPS-22. Understanding these grades helps you know the seniority, pay and responsibilities of a post.

Lower Grades (BPS 1–4)

These include support staff such as naib qasid, chowkidar and sanitary workers.

Clerical & Technical (BPS 5–15)

Clerks, junior clerks, assistants, stenographers and technicians fall here.

Officer Grades (BPS 16–22)

These are gazetted officer positions. BPS-17 is the usual entry point for officers, rising up to BPS-22 (Federal Secretary level).
